Frequently asked questions

What can I expect in the first session?

The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. I’ll ask some questions to understand what’s bringing you to therapy, and we’ll explore what you’d like to achieve. You’re welcome to share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with — there’s no pressure. We’ll also talk through confidentiality, boundaries, and how we can work together moving forward.

How long does therapy take?

Therapy is different for everyone. Some people come for a few sessions to work through a specific issue, while others engage in longer-term work for deeper exploration. We’ll regularly check in on your progress and goals to ensure therapy is meeting your needs. Sessions typically last 50 minutes and are held weekly.

Can I claim sessions through my health insurance?

Yes, many Irish health insurance providers (such as VHI, Laya, and Irish Life Health) offer partial reimbursement for therapy sessions provided by fully accredited IACP therapists. I am fully accredited with the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP). You will receive a receipt with the required details to support any claims, but I always recommend checking with your provider to confirm your individual policy cover.

Do you offer therapy for children and teenagers?

Yes. I work with children from age 6 upward, as well as teenagers. I use age-appropriate, creative approaches such as art, play, or storytelling to help younger clients feel safe and express themselves. For teenagers, sessions can include both talk-based and creative methods depending on their needs and preferences.

What issues do you help with?

I support clients dealing with a range of emotional and psychological challenges, including:

  • Anxiety and stress
  • Depression and low mood
  • Intergenerational trauma and family dynamics
  • Attachment and relational difficulties
  • Grief and loss
  • Navigating change
  • Self-esteem and self-compassion
  • Living with chronic illness

If you're not sure whether therapy is right for you or your child, feel free to reach out for an informal chat.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes. Everything shared in therapy is treated with strict confidentiality. The only exceptions are if there is a concern about serious harm to yourself or others, or if required by law. I’ll explain this in more detail in our first session, so you’re clear about your rights and boundaries.

What if I’m unsure about starting therapy?

That’s completely okay — it’s normal to feel uncertain. You're welcome to contact me with any questions or to arrange an initial session with no obligation to continue. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and supported in the process.

How do I book a session?

You can contact me directly via the contact form on this website, and I’ll get back to you within 48 hours. Please let me know if you’re interested in online sessions or joining the waiting list for in-person appointments.
